This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps Islington Cleaner takes to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our operations and supply chains. We are committed to conducting our business ethically and responsibly, ensuring that everyone who works with or for us is treated with dignity and respect.
Islington Cleaner adopts a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking, servitude and child labour. We recognise that modern slavery can occur in many forms and in any country or sector, including cleaning and facilities services. We will not knowingly engage with any organisation or individual that is involved in, or fails to take adequate steps to prevent, modern slavery.
Our management team is responsible for promoting a culture where modern slavery is understood, identified and challenged. Every employee, contractor and supplier is expected to act in line with our values and to comply with applicable laws on labour, employment and human rights.
Islington Cleaner provides professional cleaning services, including commercial, residential and specialist cleaning. Our supply chains include labour providers, subcontracted cleaning teams, manufacturers and distributors of cleaning products, equipment suppliers and facilities management partners. We recognise that some of these areas can carry heightened risks of labour exploitation, particularly where temporary or low-wage work is involved.
We aim to work with reputable suppliers who share our commitment to ethical employment practices. When possible, we prioritise long-term relationships with suppliers who can demonstrate transparency and strong labour standards.
We conduct due diligence checks when onboarding new suppliers and periodically throughout our relationships with them. These checks are intended to identify any indicators of modern slavery or human rights abuses. Our approach includes reviewing supplier policies on labour and human rights, assessing the use of subcontractors and labour agencies, evaluating geographic and sector-specific risks and seeking confirmation that suppliers comply with local labour laws and international standards.
Supplier audits may be carried out on a risk-based basis. These audits can include reviewing employment records and wage documentation, examining working hours and rest periods, checking age verification processes and interviewing workers where appropriate and safe to do so. Where concerns are identified, we require corrective action within a reasonable timeframe and may suspend or terminate the relationship if satisfactory improvements are not made.
We are committed to raising awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff, particularly managers, supervisors and employees involved in recruitment, procurement and supplier management. Training covers how to recognise signs of exploitation, how to handle concerns sensitively and how to escalate potential issues internally. We also encourage suppliers to provide training to their own staff and to adopt similar awareness programmes.
Islington Cleaner encourages all employees, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders to report any concerns or suspicions of modern slavery or unethical labour practices. Concerns can be raised confidentially through established internal reporting routes or directly to management. We do not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
Reports will be treated seriously, investigated promptly and addressed appropriately. Where necessary, we will cooperate with relevant authorities and support any affected individuals with access to appropriate assistance.
We acknowledge that tackling modern slavery is an ongoing effort that requires continuous review and improvement. Each year, Islington Cleaner will review this Modern Slavery Statement and our supporting procedures. This annual review will consider findings from supplier audits and due diligence activities, feedback from employees and stakeholders, changes in legislation and evolving best practice in ethical employment and supply chain management.
Following the review, we will update our policies, training and operational controls where necessary to strengthen our approach. We are committed to increasing transparency in our operations and to working collaboratively with suppliers, clients and industry partners to combat modern slavery.
This statement has been approved by the management of Islington Cleaner and will be reviewed and updated on an annual basis.
